switches
gives two answering options. introduces conversation branches. watch video again to observe dialogue loops: how to make the options players choose either loop back to the NPC’s starter text, or lead to a “mission”
for example, if you choose one reply option, you can set a control switch to activate which you can use to change npc text, make new npcs or tiles appear and probably more that i haven’t worked out yet. It is definitely a feature that would be useful for story progression.
Idea: after sleep 1, ( interact with bed ) npc dialogue of friends becomes more familiar.
make sure to set up a new contents page for a control switch. click new page, choose switch conditions and set specific control switch.
variables
numbered options. can open up multiple different control conditions instead of dialogue options/ switches which only have two options: on, off/ true, false.
NPC’s
select blank effect tile, place on map, set graphic for actor. Movement type: random, vertical or horizontal, approach or away from player, custom. Frequency: Smoothness of movement not speed. The lower the frequency, the more pauses. Higher frequency, more continuous movement.
Inn Processing is already a feature in the event controls page. What i have gaged is that you pay npc money and it progresses the day. Will display a fadeout screen with music. Not exactly sure if this would be useful to me as its traditional use but could be used for story progression as i did want to implement day progression opening up new opportunities. There could be an easier way to do this though, as in video 3, it goes over conversation branches and control switches where if certain conditions are set, it can change npcs and add objects.
also in this video: shops, money. Also not sure how useful to what i want to do with my game. But always an opportunity to revisit.
Notes from YT Videos.
Import own graphics: import and export – import – select .png file- ok
database – sprite.
greenbox: lower layer tiles. bluebox: upper layer tiles. ontop of existing map. Area select tool can copy and paste group tile designs. Yellow box: events layer. events are 1 square each. select graphics tile from right menu, and double click square on map. this opens up events editor. You can name event. Priority tab: defines what layer it is on. below, same as or above player. Trigger tab: How event is activated. E.g, “Action button” event activated when player presses the designated action button. in yume nikki i think it is enter. “Player touch” event activated when player walks over event square. Event squares can be visible graphics or invisible, put over green or blue layer tiles such as floors or doorways.
Doors/ Entrances/ moving to different map
bottom left corner shows your maps. Rightclick on any map to add new map. There is a map hierarchy. it is easier to group submaps together under their main map for organization such as interior maps under town maps. (eg: little village¬hotel)
how to move between maps: choose a blank event layer (yellow box). will open up event controls. Select transfer player. select map from map folders, and select the square on the map where you want player to land. select which way sprite faces upon entry.
tip: if entering from top of map, select entry square as second square, and exit square as first square so if player wishes to leave they can backtrack to original map. “Player touch” is also the easiest event trigger to select so walking in and out of doorless rooms is more seamless.

How do I make things happen?: I find it hard to have a free flowing creative process. For me, it is easier to isolate myself from everything as it is easy for me to get distracted or over complicate my original plan. my dream would be to lock myself in a studio for a bit to really knuckle down on all my ideas.
How do I navigate change?: I have to get up really early for my job. I feel like starting this job has made me so much more productive than I was before. I thought a job would get in the way of creative practice but really, its nice to have art/ animation as a release, instead of the only thing you do.
